Tinfoil Bandits Hit Chevron Stations

The “Tinfoil Bandits” are at it again.  According to a message that went out to branded marketers today, several Chevron stations have been victimized.  This scam involves thieves using stolen or expired credit cards to activate the pump while blocking a station’s credit card readers by wrapping the rooftop satellite with foil.  It is unclear at this time, if the culprits were able to get away with the theft.  Chevron reported that VSAT equipment at four of their sites had been compromised in an attempt to commit fraud.  Hughes also reports that aluminum foil was found covering VSAT satellite dishes at other branded sites as well.  Marketers are being advised to make sure their employees are aware of the threat and the need to monitor satellites more closely.
